EARLY TREATMENT
FOR HS MATTERS
The sooner and more regularly your HS is treated, the sooner your dermatologist can help reduce painful symptoms and help prevent new flare-ups. Every flare stopped can help prevent tunneling under the skin and scarring—which may help you avoid a future surgery.
Now there are more effective treatment options than ever before! Your dermatologist may recommend one or more types of treatment:
,
Biologics
Biologics work to target specific parts of the immune system that create the inflammation thought to cause HS by targeting and blocking the underlying inflammatory process at the source.
Topicals
Topical treatments like cleansers, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory skin softeners are used for HS.
Surgery
If lesions need to be drained or removed, surgery like deroofing, which removes the skin covering tunnels, may be recommended. Laser surgery may also be used to treat HS abscesses.
Oral medications
Oral treatments like NSAIDs and corticosteroids can be used to reduce inflammation and pain in HS. The diabetes medication metformin can also be prescribed for inflammation. For bacterial growth, antibiotics are often used.
